Discovered in 1977, and located at Shenhou Township, Yuzhou, the site underwent excavation in December, 2001, carried out by the Center of Archaeological Research of Beijing University and the Institute of Archaeology of Henan Province. The excavation shows that during the Tang Dynasty the site was a potter's workshop producing low-quality ceramics. The bulk of findings are black-glaze and greenish yellows traight-mouthed bowls mainly for local plain people, with a minority of colored glazed ones. The wide presence of similar potter's workshops in the late Tang dynasty serves as an indicator of the downward spread of porcelains from upper classes to lower classes.
