蒋承勇与武跃速教授等合著的《20世纪西方文学主题研究》是国内第一部直接从主题角度来审视20世纪西方文学的专著。论著通过六大主题场域的设置,并配以两位经典大师的主题性个案分析,对整个20世纪西方文学进行了巡礼,展现了一个世纪精神文化的痛苦裂变和人类的救赎渴望。论者在著作中既表达了现代与传统文学主题之间的延续性,又突出其独特的裂变特征,在沉思与追问中肯定大师们对于精神价值的坚守,凸显了文学的理想性品格。论著超越了传统的两分法,将思想内蕴与艺术手法交叉杂糅,注重个案选择与精神探索的水乳交融,运用了丰富的新理论、新方法,将20世纪西方文学的研究推向了一个新的高度。
