2006年胡锦涛总书记给去世的全国模范教师、北京大学中文系教授孟二冬的女儿孟菲回信,高度评价了孟二冬教授的先进事迹。胡锦涛总书记在信中从学识魅力和人格魅力两个方面对孟二冬进行了高度评价,并浸透出深情的哀思和怀念。信虽然是写给孟菲同学的,但是,字里行间体现了以胡锦涛同志为总书记的党中央对高校教师工作和生活的关心,是党中央领导身体力行尊师重教的又一次生动而具体的表现。百年大计,教育为本;教育大计,教师为本。教师是教育的第一资源,高等学校是培养人才的重要基地,承担着传承文明、培养人才、知识创新和社会服务的使命。高校教师队伍是履行高等教育使命的主体,是提高高等学校办学水平和人才培养质量的关键因素。为了弘扬孟二冬同志的崇高精神和品德,本刊就胡锦涛总书记给孟二冬女儿的回信为专题组织了笔谈,邀请高校教师、学生和其他行业的有识之士从不同的层面和角度表达了自己的见解。本期所刊发的只是笔谈中的一部分。
