北黑山地区系指南达科他州、蒙他那州及怀俄明州数千平方公里的范围。斑脱岩产于白垩纪地层中,呈多层状产出,主要工业矿体赋存于下白垩统漠里组。矿石质地纯净,由90～95％的钠蒙脱石组成。火山物质在海水溶蚀下,经沉积—成岩作用变为钠蒙脱石等。矿层顶板逐渐硅化,是成岩阶段矿石脱硅的证据。
Northern Montenegro refers to thousands of square kilometers between South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. The bentonite is produced in the Cretaceous strata and is multilayered. The major industrial orebodies occur in the Lower Cretaceous Muli Formation. Pure ore texture, from 90 to 95% of the composition of sodium montmorillonite.
