根据我国所特有的国情,选准适合我国具体条件的自然科学领域作为优先发展的领域,集中优势力量突破难关,是使我国科学技术走在世界前列的根本措施。具体地说,我认为从现在起到2000年这段时间内应选择以下领域作为自然科学基础研究的优先发展领域: 一、生命科学这是本世纪末下世纪初将取得重大突破的领域。这一突破不仅有巨大的科学价值,而且会形成巨大的生产力,促使人类的生产和生活发生巨大的变化。我国在生物学方面有一定基础,如有意识地使我国物理、化学和数学等方面的力量与之结合,就会形成一优势力量。在2000年前后在这一领域取得一些突破,使我国在这一领域迎头赶上先进国家。与高能物理、宇航研究等一类领域相比,生命科学是花钱较少、获利更快、适合我国财力和人力条件的发展领域,也是与解决十亿人口吃、穿、住、医及生育等问题密切相关的领域,我们
