Fatty acids, lipid-like cholesterol and phospholipids may be biosynthesized by fish and shrimp, while others can not or can not meet the needs of fish and shrimp in the developmental stage. The resulting deficiency, seriously affect the survival and growth of juvenile fish and shrimp. Improving the demand of fish and shrimp for fatty acids, cholesterol and phospholipids is a way to improve exogenous nutrition. Therefore, understanding the physiological functions, deficiencies and requirements of fatty acids, cholesterol and phospholipids in the life activities of fish and shrimp is very important for the formulation of feed standards for fish and shrimp and the improvement of the survival rate and growth rate of fish and shrimp.
