Caving is one of the common injuries of armor plates when they are attacked by projectiles, characterized by the collapse of fragments of varying sizes from the back of the armor plate. Such fragments falling at higher speeds suffer considerable damage to personnel and equipment behind the armor, rendering the armor less protective. In this study, we dissected eighteen 28CrMnMoRE steel armor plates (80mm in thickness) and caving blocks with different degrees of damage. Based on the analysis of various factors that caused the caving, a model of caving and breaking was put forward, and the measures of improving caving Large production conditions have achieved good results.
