Hewins during 1882-1989 were a rare historical source of the specialized development of children’s services in the United States Library. The eight-year report establishes a library research model that combines qualitative and quantitative methods and opens up a good atmosphere for cooperation among the library community. As the authors of the eight reports were all female, they also established to some extent the important role of female librarians in the history of the American children’s library. The eight reports have become a valuable historical material for people to understand the development of the children’s services in the U.S. Library from 1876 to 1900.
