提起国会图书馆,尽人皆知。图书馆界的人自不待言,即便是其他专业的学者、专家,甚至一般常人,只要对美国情况基本了解者,便知道有这么一个国会图书馆。但是人们知道的多是其宏伟的建筑,丰富的藏书,先进的备各以及一流的服务。然而,国会图书馆馆长的职位如何任命?由谁担任?恐怕鲜为人知。约轮·Y·科尔于1987年第16卷第1期的《情报报告与书目》(lnformation Reports andBibliographies)刊物上发表文章,披露了国会图书馆馆长的任命情况,现将文献编译如下,以飨读者。
Lifting the Library of Congress, it is well known. It goes without saying that those in the library community need to know that even a professional scholar, expert, and even ordinary person can understand such a parliamentary library as long as they have a basic understanding of the situation in the United States. But what people know is mostly its magnificent architecture, rich collection of books, advanced equipment and first-class services. However, how to appoint a director of the Library of Congress and who to serve are probably little-known.
