Stringent emission norms around the world encourage automotive manufacturers to adopt a technology, which will give lower emissions and higher efficiency.IC engines fuelled with fossil fuels give higher amount of carbon dioxide emissions, causing major effect on environment.Although electric vehicles including fuel cell vehicles provide upper hand in terms of zero emissions. We need diversity of various alternative fuels to reduce dependence of fossil fuels.Bio fuels from various sources are becoming popular and needs some modifications in engine working parameters such as ignition delay because of their diverse chemical attributes to get same output as of fossil fuelled combustion engines. This paper investigates idea of a novel fuel sensor based on Solid Oxide Fuel Cell(SOFC)technol-ogy.Voltage output of SOFC varies according to varying chemical fuel compositions, making it suitable to be used as a signal genera-tor.A study of factors affecting SOFC performance and response time was carried out and parameters to be adjusted during experiments are optimized for fabrication of proposed test rig. However,to full proof investment going on for experimental plans to study response time of SOFC to varying fuels at changing gas temperature, mass flow rate and pressure simulation studies were carried out.SOFC simulation was done in CHEMKIN software and a mathematical model for calculation of response time was done in MATLAB.Optimum set of values for pressure, temperature & mass flow rate aimed at minimum response time of SOFC based sensor were obtained through simulations.
