  Molecular crowding is a novel concept for obtaining molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) to improve selectivity and retention.In this study, a levofloxacin imprinted monolithic column was prepared under molecular crowding conditions.With methacrylic acid as functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as cross-linking monomer, a mixture of polystyrene-tetrahydrofuran (PS/THF), toluene and dimethyl sulfoxide were used as porogen, an imprinted monolith was synthesized by an in-situ polymerization with levofloxacin as template.Template to monomer ratio and polar solvent on the imprinting effect of MIP monolithic column were investigated.Retention factor of levofloxacin was up to 20.39 when the ratio of template and functional monomer was 1/8.The selectivity of resulting MIPs prepared in PS/THF was about 12 times higher than that without PS.The textural and morphological parameters for imprinted monoliths, such as BET surface areas, pore volumes, pore size distributions and the value of anisotropic have also been determined.
