Isoprene and a-pinene in the marine boundary layer (28th China Antarctic Research Expedition and 5th China Arctic Research Expedition) Isoprene and a-pinene were suggested as the most probable sources for the marine secondary organic aerosol (SOA).We analyzed Isoprene and a-pinene in aerosol samples collected from the Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Research Expeditions. The concentrations of Isoprene are between 0 and 1305 parts per trillion by volume (pptv), and concentrations of a-pinene are between 0 and 21971 pptv. Both of them are mainly emitted by marine biota. We divided them to 15 regions : Drake Passage, Antarctic Peninsula, West Antarctic, East Antarctic, Southern Ocean, Austrilian Adjacant Sea, Southeast Asia, Arctic Ocean, Norwegian Sea, Barents Sea, Bering Sea, Sea of Okhotsk, North Pacific, Sea of Japan and Yellow Sea.Compared with Oceanic chlorophyll-a concentration ([Ch1-a]) observed from satellite, we found Isoprene has a significant correlation with [Ch1-a] in Southern Ocean and a-pinene has a significant correlation with [Ch1-a] in Norwegian Sea.
